A look at International's new TerraStar truck
Navistar continued to expand the breadth of its market reach with the introduction of the TerraStar cab chassis, an all-electric delivery van and the purchase of a cement mixer manufacturer.
The TerraStar will be powered by Navistar's V-8 MaxxForce 7 diesel (220-300/560-660) engine. The engine will be matched to an Allison 1000 5-speed automatic. Navistar, the only manufacturer not using SCR, will use advanced exhaust gas recirculation to meet 2010 federal diesel emissions standards for the TerraStar.
The chassis cab will be available in regular, extended and crew cab configurations. An all-wheel-drive version will be introduced in 2011. Commercial bus variants for school buses and the rental car shuttle markets will also be available. Production is scheduled to begin in the fall.
Navistar also introduced the all-electric light-duty eStar truck. The Classes 2c-3 van will have a range of 100 miles per charge and can be recharged in six to eight hours, the company said.
Navistar last December acquired Continental Manufacturing Co., a manufacturer of rear-discharge mixers.
